Violinist Irina Muresanu, cellist Jonah Ellsworth, and pianist Heng-Jin Park each have distinguished careers as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and have appeared with major orchestras and premier chamber music festivals throughout the United States and Europe. Cellist Mr. Ellsworth has performed as soloist with the Boston Symphony, Akron Symphony, Boston Philharmonic, Jacksonville Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, Symphony by the Sea and New Bedford Symphony. Additionally, Ellsworth attended the Marlboro Music Festival from 2014-2016. Ms. Muresanu, who has appeared as soloist with the Boston Philharmonic, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and other top international orchestras, is the recipient of top prizes at the Montreal International Competition and the Queen Elizabeth Violin Competition. Ms. Park, who made her solo debut with the Boston Pops at the age of 15, is the founding member of the Boston Trio and founder and artistic director of Halcyon Music Festival.

Gold medalist of the Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, 28-year-old pianist Yekwon Sunwoo has been hailed for “his total command over the instrument and its expressiveness” (San Francisco Examiner). A powerful and virtuosic performer, he also, in his own words, “strives to reach for the truth and pure beauty in music,” and hopes to convey those fundamental emotions to audiences.

Jasper String Quartet J Freivogel, violin Sae Chonabayashi, violin Sam Quintal, viola Rachel Henderson Freivogel, cello Winner of the 2012 Cleveland Quartet Award, the Jasper String Quartet has been hailed as “sonically delightful and expressively compelling” (The Strad) and as “powerful” (The New York Times). The 1940s ushered in Broadway’s Golden Age, starting with the groundbreaking work of Rodgers and Hammerstein and expanding to include many of Music Theater’s best loved artists and composers. Join us as Opera Theater of Connecticut presents an evening of The Gems of Broadway’s Golden Age with five professional singers paying tribute to the works of Comden and Green, Lerner and Loewe, Cole Porter and others with selected pieces from shows such as Kiss Me Kate, Annie Get Your Gun, Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady, among others, all backed by illustrative projections.

Love, Passion, and Revenge are the motivating themes providing the current that runs through so many operas and operettas. The many facets of all of these are illuminated in concert by Opera Theater of Connecticut and six professional opera singers in a musical evening of romance, desire, and vengeance, all with projected supertitles to make sure everyone understands the complexity, clarity, and comedy of these all-too-human primal emotions.

Established in 1989, the St. Lawrence String Quartet earned international recognition within a few years, winning both the Banff Quartet Competition and the Young Concert Artists audition in 1992. The group has since developed an undisputed reputation as a truly world class chamber ensemble. Called “ witty, buoyant, and wickedly attentive (The Gazette, Montreal), with a “peerless” sense of ensemble (Financial Times, London), the quartet is celebrated for its “smoldering intensity” (Washington Post), and “flexibility, dramatic fire and... hint of rock 'n' roll energy” (LA Times). SLSQ performs internationally and has served as Ensemble in Residence at Stanford University since 1998.
